General Cleaning
- To freshen your bathroom or kitchen drain, pour 1/4 to 1/2 box of baking soda down the drain, add 1/2 cup of white vinegar. Cover drain tightly for a few minutes and flush with cold water.
- Clean window screens with a damp sponge covered with old nylons.
- To clean paddle fans place an old pillowcase over each blade as you clean it to collect the dust as you pull the pillowcase off.
Bath and Kitchen Cleaning Tips
- Keep the toilet bowl ring-free by pouring a half-gallon of white vinegar in it once a month. Let it soak overnight before flushing.
- For immediate air freshener anywhere in the house, place a fabric softener sheet in the heating vent; it circulates the scent throughout the room. Or, add a dab of fragrance on a light bulb. When the light is on, the heat releases the aroma.
- Use equal parts white vinegar and water in a spray bottle as a daily shower rinse to prevent mildew and soap scum build-up on walls, doors and curtains.
- Use a wet stainless steel pad (we like SOS pads) to clean your stove top and drip pans.
- Microwave cleaning will be faster and easier if you heat a bowl of lemon juice and water to steaming in the microwave. Food will loosen making it easier to clean. Smells great too!
Problem Solving
- To remove black heel marks on your floors, use a pencil eraser.
- To remove wax from horizontal surfaces, use a driver’s license or credit card to safely scrape away wax.
- For dark stains like rust on your porcelain, rub with a paste of borax and lemon juice.
- To remove water spots on stainless steel, rub area with a clean, soft cloth dampened with white vinegar. Wipe dry to avoid spots.
- To remove carpet stains, spot clean with white vinegar. Do not use vinegar on mustard or blood as it will set the stain.
General Stain Removal
- When you're able, apply stain remover on underside of spot to prevent stain from being forced down through fabric.
- Place reverse side of stains on clean folded cloth. Using a mix of 1 tsp. liquid detergent and 2 cups water, apply sparingly to gently dab into stain using moistened cloth. Work from center to edge, moving pad underneath as stain is absorbed.
- Always test a swatch first! Rub stain remover on hidden piece of fabric and try the least harmful method first.
- React quickly. Apply stain remover as soon as possible. Heat and hot water may permanently set stains. Hot water should be used for greasy stains and cold water for non-greasy stains. Launder immediately after treatment.
